Who We Are

What we do
Our Story
Every great business starts with a story. Ours begins with a shared passion for making things by hand, a love of the Devon countryside, and a fascination with one of the world’s oldest and most beautiful metals—copper.
Where It All Began
Chris has spent many years running his own electrical contracting business throughout Devon. Working with copper every day, he developed an appreciation for the metal—its strength, its warmth, its history and the way it naturally changes with age.
Like every electrician, copper offcuts and scrap were an everyday part of the job. Rather than simply seeing them as waste, Chris became curious about what else could be created from them. That curiosity led to building a small smelting furnace and experimenting with melting copper into simple ingots in the workshop.
What started as a hobby quickly became a passion.
Those first experiments sparked an idea that copper could become something much more than an industrial material. It could become something beautiful.
Today, our products are crafted using carefully selected, high-purity copper, but those early evenings spent experimenting with molten copper were where the foundations of Exmoor Copper were laid.
Inspired by Exmoor
Our workshop sits close to the edge of Exmoor National Park, a place that has always been an important part of our lives.
Chris has spent many years walking across Exmoor with his daughters, Chloe and Sophia, exploring the rivers, woodlands and open moorland that make the National Park so special. More recently, Chris and Lorraine have continued that tradition together, often with their young son Eddie, discovering new paths and returning to old favourites.
One walk in particular has become especially meaningful.
Following the River Barle from Simonsbath towards the remains of Wheal Eliza, one of Exmoor’s historic nineteenth-century copper mines, you can still see traces of the area’s remarkable mining heritage. Standing amongst the old workings, surrounded by ancient woodland and flowing water, it’s easy to imagine the generations of miners who once searched these hills for the very same metal we now work with every day.
That connection between Exmoor’s landscape, its history and Chris’s own fascination with copper became the inspiration behind Exmoor Copper.
The name wasn’t chosen because it sounded good—it was chosen because it tells our story.
Exmoor Copper
Every Exmoor Copper bullion bar is individually machined, engraved and hand finished in our workshop.
We deliberately avoid mass production. Instead, we produce small batches, limited editions and bespoke commissions, allowing every piece to receive the time and attention it deserves. No two bars are ever completely identical, and we believe that’s exactly how handcrafted products should be.
Whether it’s a personalised gift, a commemorative piece or one of our own exclusive designs, every bar carries a little of our story—and hopefully becomes part of yours.
A Family Business
Lorraine is not only co-founder of PixlBeam Studio but also a full-time mum to Eddie, balancing family life with helping shape every aspect of the business. Together we share the design ideas, product development, customer service, finishing processes and the day-to-day running of the workshop.
Being a small family business means we’re able to put genuine care into everything we create. Every enquiry is answered by us. Every order is prepared by us. Every product that leaves our workshop has passed through our own hands.
Looking Ahead
Although PixlBeam Studio continues to grow, one thing will never change.
We’ll always choose craftsmanship over mass production.
We’ll always value quality over quantity.
And we’ll always be proud to create products that have a story behind them.
Thank you for supporting our small family business. By choosing PixlBeam Studio and Exmoor Copper, you’re helping to keep traditional craftsmanship alive while supporting independent British makers who genuinely love what they do.
